At Just for Your Smile, we believe in the importance of repairing not just the form and function of your smile but the appearance as well. That’s why we work hard to help people keep their smiles healthy with preventive dentistry, and we always utilize the most conservative treatment methods and natural looking, metal-free restoration materials. If you’re struggling with a damaged or decayed smile, don’t wait to call our team to schedule an appointment at Just for Your Smile in Tysons Corner or Potomac. Our dental office provides tooth-colored, metal-free dental restoration options to seamlessly restore smiles.
Dental crowns are restorations that fit over the top of the tooth to replace dental structures and protect the tooth from further damage. Fixed bridges are tooth replacement prosthetics used to replace one or a few consecutive missing teeth. The replacement tooth or teeth are cemented on both sides to dental crowns. The crowns are then attached to surrounding healthy teeth to anchor the restoration in place, bridging the gap in your smile.
We recommend restorations using a fully metal-free restoration material in order to fully repair the look, feel, and function of teeth. Metal restorations can mar the appearance of the smile, making people feel self-conscious. Porcelain fused to metal restorations look more like natural smiles, but over time, the porcelain layer of the restoration begins to wear away, revealing the darkly colored metal below. To maintain the most natural looking smiles, we recommend an all-ceramic or zirconia restoration.
In most cases, our metal-free dental crowns and bridges will need to be placed over the course of just two trips to our dental office. At your first appointment, we prepare your tooth or teeth by removing a small amount of tooth enamel to accommodate the added structure of your dental restoration. Then, we capture bite impressions that are used by our dental lab to create your high quality all-ceramic or zirconia dental restoration. We will place a temporary crown or bridge to protect your smile between appointments. When we receive the final restoration, our team will call you to schedule the follow up appointment where we will exchange the temporary for your final dental crown or fixed bridge.
Once your metal-free dental restoration is in place, you may want to make some small adjustments to your oral hygiene routine to protect the newly restored smile. You will want to use a soft bristled toothbrush and minimally abrasive toothpaste. You may also want to use a waxed floss to avoid pulling around the edges of the dental restoration. As always, you should visit our team two times each year for dental exams and teeth cleanings.
