How Teeth are Extracted

Teeth are extracted using two methods – pulling or surgical removal. Pulling teeth is only possible for teeth that are fully emerged from the gum line. We use clasps to shift the tooth back and forth until it breaks free from the supportive bone and soft tissue. When we’re unable to remove the tooth by pulling, we’ll need to surgically extract it. This can involve cutting away soft tissue to expose underlying tooth structure, breaking the tooth into smaller, more manageable pieces, and a number of other surgical steps that allow us to safely and comfortably remove the tooth.
